Only got a minute? Go read ChainSawSuit. Why? I know I've only been doing this webcomic thing for a year, but I'm finally starting to get a sense of what skills I need to acquire and hone in the next few years to go full-time on comics. I'm not quitting my day job yet, but Kris Straub of Starslip Crisis is. He makes one of the smartest and most compelling humor comics I've seen anywhere, and he's taking some risks to do webcomics full-time, with the goal of running four strips concurrently. Here at Team Snow Day, you may know that Art is busy with a new comic about Jill, which I will be helping with, but I am also working on another two yet-unannounced JABverse comics that you will be hearing more about in the next few months. Earlier this evening, Art asked me if I really thought I could do all four comics concurrently, and less than an hour later I read Straub's post and thought, hell, that's what I'm working towards. While I don't see myself reaching that point for another few years, it's inspiring to see someone whose work I admire pushing themselves and taking the risks I see ahead of me. Do us all a favor and read Starslip and ChainSawSuit. You'll be a better person, Straub will appreciate your readership, and I'll be able to keep believing I can really pull this off, which will mean that even without me quitting my job you may see (oh god) eight JABverse comic updates weekly by Autumn.
